Why we do what we do, an exploration of human behaviour.
This is an inquiry-based course that will cover significant psychological research, what made these studies important, and what impact they have on society today. By comparing different approaches within the field of psychology, students will investigate what it is that makes us behave the way we do. Students will explore how it is applied in the fields of mental health, social, and forensic psychology. We will cover the fields of biological and sociocultural psychology to try to find out how our genetic heritage and social environment interact. Students will investigate several issues present in modern psychology, such as gender and cultural bias, and the use of children and animals in psychological research. Specific focus areas for each topic and assessments contexts will be negotiated between participating students and the teacher to allow for student interest.
