For those who love to write
Are you ready to push your writing further and play with new ideas?
You are welcome to join this class, which combines craft with creativity. You will look into the line between what is real and what is imagined and learn how words can bring whole worlds to life. To turn your ideas and experiences into pieces that might help us understand the world we live in, we will look at new works, try voice, and push your writing outside of what you know.
During the course, you will have the chance to look into personal stories, short stories, and poetry. You will have the opportunity to improve your descriptive writing so that the feelings and scenes you write about become real experiences. We will also look at transformative and life writing, in which you can reinterpret events, use personal memories, and make art that is both universal and personal.
Each week, we’ll use writing exercises designed to help you think of new ideas and push your creative side. Whether you're writing to tell a great story or make sense of the world around you, you'll explore different types of writing, discover your voice, and create a portfolio that reflects your growth.
You will have a set of skills and polished pieces for NCEA assessment purposes, alongside other assessment options, by the end of the course. Personalised feedback, engaging conversations, and the opportunity to read the work of other motivated writers will not only help you improve your own writing but also inspire new ways to express your thoughts about the world.
