Course Overview

This course is designed to introduce students to psychology and the study of human behaviour. Students explore biological, behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic and humanistic approaches in psychology. They examine key psychological debates like nature versus nurture, and how these debates have changed over time. The complex ethical minefield of psychological practice is researched by studying human bias and ethics, and students examine how theories are used in fields of psychological practice.

Kia ora, hello, I'm Madeline Campbell. I live near Lake Brunner just outside Māwhera Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island. I've been in education for 26 years, teaching in secondary schools in South and Central Auckland and the West Coast. I grew up in Central Otago and studied in Dunedin. I've taught lots of subjects, mainly visual arts and social science fields. I completed my Masters study in Arts Psychotherapy, and I'm interested in human consciousness and expression, and how people make sense of reality. I taught printmaking at Toi Ora Live Art Trust in Central Auckland, an inclusive creative space for people experiencing mental health challenges. I also have some Positive Psychology training for a wellbeing in education programme. I live on a property with my partner half covered in native bush and beech forest with wild deer and pigs running around, a river full of trout running along the bottom of the property, tonnes of native birds, as well as chooks, ducks, a kunekune pig, goats, some calves, a few horses, and a dog and cat. I love horse riding, tai chi, being outside, and making art when I can. I have four step-daughters aged from 17 to 23. This year, I’m working mostly from home for 4 days a week for NetNZ, teaching two psychology classes, and supporting NetNZ teaching with their online teaching. My school base is South Westland Area School in Hari Hari.
