L2 Agribusiness

Use a range of contexts to explore agribusiness theory and practices

Course Overview

Agriculture is a fundamental source of national prosperity. (J.J. Mapes)

In Agribusiness students learn how individuals and groups of people organise, plan, and act to create and develop goods and services to satisfy customers in a primary industry context. Agribusiness is influenced by and impacts on the cultural, ethical, environmental, political, and economic conditions of society. Issues such as sustainability, citizenship, enterprise, and globalisation are considered with an agricultural or horticultural focus.

I have been teaching Chemistry and junior Science at Waitaki Girls High School for 14 years as well as Ag / Hort and Agribusiness. As these have elements such as healthy food sources, the business of farming, science of genetics and reproduction and environmental concerns included in the criteria they cover many areas that I am passionate about. One of my interests is growing healthier food as we will need to feed more people with less land. Outside of school we have an orchard, mainly heritage variety apples and are involved in sequence dancing (a little different from ballroom).
