The study of how the people and the landscape influence each other
Geography is about the natural and cultural environments and how these interact. It is how we use the land and make it sustainable for the future. Geography is the study of how the people and the landscape affect each other. There are many environments that humans live in and interact with. We will study many different environments, and processes that act upon them. Climatic and water processes will feature along with tectonic and alpine processes in the latter part of the year.
Spatial patterns and the distribution of features is a key concept in Geography. This course will investigate several global patterns, and study the factors creating them. There are several world environments that will be covered. Students will explore an environment and analyse field data with guidance from the teacher. This data will be about the Taruheru river in Gisborne.
Topics covered include:
- (I)Spatial Distribution - Population/ Rainforests /Tropical Cyclones /Coffee/
- (I)Explore an environment using data - An investigation of a given data set guided by the teacher. [Taruheru River]
- (E) Processes of the environment - Tongariro Volcanic Zone [Tectonics/Alpine]
- (E)Perspectives - External exam with resources booklet provided.
- Contemporary Geographic Issues - / Road degradation of NZ regions/impacts of extreme weather
