Crafting History

Project based course in which students explore and reimagine historical contexts using Minecraft

Course Overview

This is a project based course in which students explore and reimagine historical contexts using Minecraft. There is a strong research / inquiry based component and students work as a team in both this aspect and the building.

The contexts explored are negotiated by the student group and teacher. In past years learners have explored:

Why humanity first settled, which involved researching the neolithic revolution and then building Jericho, what is purported to be the first major human settlement

Explored Roman social life during the classical period and building our own working, Roman town

Exploring the influences of history on the fantasy genre. Students have been built Hobbiton (Lord of the Rings) and Castle Black (Lord of the Rings)

This would be suitable for ages 12-15 year olds and could be used for NCEA L1 if required.
