L3 Chemistry: Organic Chemistry - Semester Two

Organic chemistry is the study of carbon compounds

Course Overview

The course involves involves naming and using IUPAC conventions and drawing structural formulae of organic compounds and giving an account of their physical properties and/or reactivity. The following functional groups will be studied: alkene, haloalkane, amine, alcohol, aldehyde, ketone, carboxylic acid, ester (including triglycerides), acyl chloride, and amide. An optional extra is to look at how to determine the structure of organic molecules using spectroscopic data.

I am a teacher at Roxburgh Area School in Central Otago. I enjoy jogging and biking. We have some lovely local bike trails. In winter I go with the Alexandra Harrier group exploring the hills around the district. I support the Highlanders and Otago rugby teams.
