L3 Agribusiness

Use a range of contexts to explore agribusiness theory and practices in depth

Course Overview

L3 Agribusiness

Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness. (Thomas Jefferson)

The Level 3 course follows on for level 2 Agribusiness with concepts and contexts studied in more depth.  Students learn how individuals and groups of people organise, plan, and act to create and develop goods and services to satisfy customers in a primary industry context. Knowledge and skills gained, and exposure to enterprise culture, can help shape “creative, energetic, and enterprising” young people who will contribute to New Zealand’s economic future via a primary industry focus.

I have been teaching Chemistry and junior Science at Waitaki Girls High School for 14 years as well as Ag / Hort and Agribusiness. As these have elements such as healthy food sources, the business of farming, science of genetics and reproduction and environmental concerns included in the criteria they cover many areas that I am passionate about. One of my interests is growing healthier food as we will need to feed more people with less land. Outside of school we have an orchard, mainly heritage variety apples and are involved in sequence dancing (a little different from ballroom).
