L1 Design and Visual Communication (DVC)

Course Overview

This course is entry level into design that has a focus on learning how to generate, develop and present  Spatial Design outcomes using a range of techniques including; freehand sketching, rendering and CAD (computer aided design). The NCEA L1 portfolio of work requires the learner to research given problems, develop solutions that are a best fit, then visually communicate functional, aesthetic and technical features. 

Note; Generating design ideas and design modification is something that we all do in our everyday lives. This course is extremely relevant for anyone aspiring to progress to higher forms of learning, for example; Tertiary Technology, Civil Engineering, Trades, Construction, Manufacturing and Architecture.

Access to: A3 paper and a clearfile, or folder, for documents safekeeping. Archicad CAD (your school should cover this cost) A selection of drawing pencils HB, 2B, 6B & colouring pencils. Optional are paints, coloured markers or other media for producing coloured presentation An A3 scanner to submit your work for assessment. A photo of your work is not acceptable as it will not allow checking for accuracy, line type and scale. Your school printer will have scanning capabilities.
