Beginners French (KA) - Semester 1

This course will prepare you to undertake Level 1 French

Course Overview

An introduction to French language and culture, for absolute beginners, covering New Zealand Curriculum Levels 1-3. Students will be able to understand language that contains well-rehearsed sentence patterns and familiar vocabulary. They will interact in predictable exchanges. As they study the various topics, the students will learn about some basic French grammar and also cultural aspects and elements.

Topics covered include:

  • Some French speaking countries 

  • Cultural and historical elements (eg celebrations and festivals)

  • Alphabet/pronunciation

  • Greetings / Introductions- self & others

  • Numbers 1-100

  • Dates; days of week, months -Age/ Birthdays

  • Colors and adjectives

  • Family members -

  • Food/Drink- items, likes and dislikes

  • Leisure time activities, sports  

  • Houses
